Course objectives (in Czech)
The aim of the course is to make students familiar with the social and cultural factors that influence contemporary society and that originate in various historical and cultural settings. We are going to introduce empirical studies and theories that analyze how social, economic, cultural, and political systems are interrelated and influence our behavior and choices. We are going to look at several geographic locations, historical periods, and contemporary social reality. We are going to use the methodology of applied sociology and social anthropology in order to grasp the dynamic of the consumption culture – the main source of our lifestyle and identity. The aim of the course is also to enrich and develop the critical and analytical thinking of the students while working with academic texts.
